Warner Bros Montreal, the studio behind 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins, is apparently gearing up for not one, but two triple A budget games set within the DC Comics Universe.
The Montreal studio has become known for their work within the Batman Arkham franchise in recent years; first handling the Wii U port of Batman: Arkham City. From this, the developers went on to create the standalone title, Batman: Arkham Origins, and have since worked on small projects including several pieces of add-on content for the recent Batman: Arkham Knight.
As someone who has played all of the Batman Arkham games to date, I had a feeling this would happen. While Rocksteady has taken their bow (claiming that Arkham Knight was the last Batman game they’d be working on), I always figured Warner Bros would make sure their in-house developers in Montreal would continue the series to some extent.
While there are no official announcements or confirmations, I’m fairly confident at least one of these two games will be a Batman: Arkham game in one form or another. From day one, I have said to myself (and my friends) that there is still a big enough gap in the series’ continuity to allow at least one more game to be set before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum, but after the events of Batman: Arkham Origins.
(Mild spoiler warning here!)
Combine this with the fact that The Suicide Squad was hinted at in a post ending sequence for Batman: Arkham Origins means we could even see a game based on the group of villains-for-hire, after the film WB/DC film hits next year.
