2014 brought viewers a small taste of the Mega Monster Universe that was to come with Gareth Edward’s Godzilla.
Along with learning that everything needs a shared universe (thanks, Marvel), we also learned that you can indeed give an actor top billing for appearing in a film for 10 minutes *cough* Bryan Cranston *cough*.
Regardless of the pitchfork-lighting lies, Godzilla wound up giving Warner Bros. enough return to comfortably green light a sequel; let’s hope they remember to give Godzilla more screen time in their GODZILLA movie.
Godzilla 2 has been given the official title of Godzilla: King of Monsters, and will star Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, and Mr. Let Them Fight himself, Ken Watanabe.
Now, it seems Godzilla 2 has landed itself another solid actor with Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel, The Conjuring 1 & 2).
Farmiga will be playing the mother of Billie Bobby Brown’s character alongside Kyle Chandler.
The film will be directed and written by Michael Dougherty (Krampus and X-Men: Apocalypse), with Max Borenstein and Zach Shields aiding in the writing.
Though no information has been given on the film’s plot, it is rumored to either share or reboot the story told in 1956’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
King of Monsters is slated for a release in March 22, 2019 and will be the third installment in Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse following this year’s Kong: Skull Island which will hit theaters next Friday, March 10th.
After King of Monsters, the long-awaited Godzilla vs. King Kong will be planned for a release less than a year after, May 29, 2020.
So uh…Monsterverse, huh? Whose pre-teen came up with that name?
