The Marvel Cinematic Universe has more than just a handful of successful films. Just about everything Marvel Studious has chucked out has been met with high praise from both fans and critics.
However, with every winning streak lies a few not-so stellar points. In terms of Marvel movies, those low points can be seen in the Thor series.
With the MCU having developed a lot more since that last Thor film, Marvel and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi look to bring a refreshing entry into the list by having this next installment play off Chris Hemsworth’s natural comedic abilities.
During an interview with Fandango for Kong: Skull Island, Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, let out some details on what audiences should expect from Thor: Ragnarok in terms of story continuity and themes:
“At the end of The Dark World, Loki is on the throne. At the beginning of Ragnarok, Thor has a few questions, Loki is endearingly enigmatic about providing answers. Taika Waititi is such a spirited, hilarious individual, and he and Chris [Hemsworth] became very fast friends.
What was great for me to see was to see their friendship kind of blossom, and they brought out the best in each other, and started making stuff up, and I can confidently say right now that this will be the funniest depiction of the character of Thor that you’ve ever seen. I personally have known for almost ten years that Chris Hemsworth is hilarious.”
Hemsworth proved to audiences that he has a knack for humor in 2016 when he appeared as Kevin in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters remake.
His dimwitted and lovable take on the character showed audiences that he’s more than just a brick wall who can wield a hammer.
All in all, it’s refreshing to see Marvel bringing in some genre diversity to their film line up. Not necessarily the diversity society is aiming for, but still refreshing.
Thor: Ragnorok is set to his theaters November 3rd, 2017 and will star Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Alexander, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, and Tom Hiddleston.
