In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, legendary director Steven Spielberg claims he won’t kill off Indiana Jones at the end of the next film. This dashes hopes of fans who just want Indy put out of his misery after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Spielberg goes on to state that:
“I think this one is straight down the pike for the fans…The one thing I will tell you is I’m not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it.”
After defiling everyone’s fond memories of the iconic hero in their last outing, Spielberg and Ford both seem to be coming at the film with new perspective. Early rumors suggested Chris Pratt may star in a reboot, before Ford officially joined production in March.
Of all the things we are unsure of, we can at least be sure there will be no Shia LaBeouf. After his franchise killing turn in Crystal Skull, he has fallen in celebrity status.
After Ford reprised his role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it should have been more obvious to die-hard fans that [SPOILER ALERT] his character would die. He’s only been expressing his desire for Han to die for over 30 years.
Surely this led to speculation that Ford wants to kill off Indiana Jones too, leading Spielberg to make the statement.
On the other hand, maybe Spielberg really is killing Indy, to put him out of his misery. Except just not at the very end of the next film.
But I guess for now we have to take his word that he won’t and hope for the better that Indy goes undefiled.
The fifth installment of the Indiana Jones movie is dated to release in the summer of 2019.
Are you looking forward to the fifth in the series?
Will you miss Shia LaBeouf at all?
