The leaked prices that have been pouring out for Sony’s VR headset have been all over the place. Well, FINALLY Sony has released not only the price for the PSVR, but also its specs and release date.
It turns out that the price for the PSVR is going to be a lot lower than what we reported on back in mid-February when that Czech website screenshot surfaced.
Although the headset will cost you about as much as the console itself, it is definitely a lot cheaper than the other headsets in the market like the $600 Oculus Rift and the extremely high-priced HTC Vibe which comes in at a whopping $800. Add in the amount you’ll most likely have to spend in upgrading your rig to run those two headsets and the PSVR starts to look like the best option for the average consumer.
The spec Sony managed to cram into this headset are as follows:
- Component: Processor Unit, VR Headset
- Display Method: OLED
- Panel Size: 5.7 in.
- Resolution: 1920×RGB×1080 (960×RGB×1080 per eye)
- Refresh Rate: 120Hz, 60Hz
- Field of View: Approx. 100°
- Sensors: Accelerator and Gyroscope
- Connection Interface: HDMI + USB
- Function: 3D Audio
…that’s not very specific (at least in some aspects). Hopefully once this thing gets into consumer hands (in October) someone somewhere will be brave enough to take it apart and further analyze the headset.
Whatever the case is, I’m almost 100% sure it will sell like crazy given both the huge number of PS4 users there are and the fact that it will be released just early enough in the holiday season to allow consumers to save up enough money.
