Fresh after getting tons of green for Disney and Marvel in the box office, the Russo brothers are set on growing green for Showtime. Weed that is, Joe and Anthony Russo are set on producing a pot comedy for Showtime.
As a return to TV comedy, the brothers Russo are teaming on a half-hour comedy with writers Moshe Kasher (The New Normal) and Zach Kregger (The Whitest Kid U Know). The as yet untitled series focuses on a family of pot dealers whose world gets twisted upside down when their illegal product suddenly becomes legal in their home state.
As per Deadline, “As the family struggles to adapt to the strange new world of legitimate business, they are forced to depend upon the business acumen of their son, whose straight and narrow leanings have always made him a ‘black sheep’ in this clan of reprobates.”
The Russo Brothers first gained notoriety on TV for directing the pilot of cult hit Arrested Development and they flexed their geek cred as writers and executive-producers on Community for four of their six seasons. it was during this time that they surprised audiences with one of the most hailed superhero films Captain America: Winter Soldier.
The last TV show the Russo brothers produced was the short-lived NBC sitcom Animal Practice.
