CBS Television Studios has announced a new Star Trek television series for 2017!
The announcement comes after nearly ten years without Star Trek on television. Multiple creators have come to CBS Studios with the intention of bringing back the legendary sci-fi franchise to television but nothing has been met with success, until now.
CBS had this to say:
“There is no better time to give Star Trek fans a new series than on the heels of the original show’s 50th anniversary celebration,” said David Stapf, President, CBS Television Studios. “Everyone here has great respect for this storied franchise, and we’re excited to launch its next television chapter in the creative mind and skilled hands of Alex Kurtzman, someone who knows this world and its audience intimately.”
The new series will be helmed by Alex Kurtzman (writer and produce of Star Trek & Star Trek: Into Darkness). The series will debut exclusively to CBS’ All Access. All Access is a digital subscription streaming service for both live and on-demand content.
Unfortunately, at this time, nothing is known about the series in regards to story, cast or behind the scenes (with the exception of Kurtzman). However, we know the series will debut in 2017, a year after the 50th anniversary of the legendary franchise.
