Lizard Squad, a hacking group notorious for taking down the Playstation Network and Xbox Live servers on Christmas Day 2014. Have recently managed to take down gaming developing giant, Blizzard.

The group used DDoS to take down the company today and took to twitter to claim the attack.

Although the reason for the attack is unclear at this present time it is speculated that the surprise attack is due to Blizzard taking down Nostalrius, a private ‘vanilla’ World of Warcraft server. Currently Lizard Squad have not confirmed or denied any of these rumours.

A statement from one of the Blizzard employees said:

“It looks like we experienced a potential DDoS on one of our datacenters. Initial impact appears to have ended and our engineers put up some buffers to resolve the issue, and realms should start recovering. We’re continuing to monitor and work on mitigating the impact. Apologies for the inconvenience, and we’ll be sure to provide updates as they continue to come in.”

Lizard Squad took down most of Blizzard’s games including Starcraft 2, WoW, Diablo 3 and Hearthstone.
