Halo 5

Halo 5 has now been with us for almost a week. While some have been challenged with the controversial story and requisition points, nothing has been as challenging as the loss of a huge mode: Split-Screen Co-Op. The mode might be one of the reasons why the franchise became so popular back in the early 2000s on the Xbox.

Halo 5
Fun with your friends…just not together?

Unfortunately, for fans of the popular mode, it looks like 343 Industries got caught up in the FPS war between consoles. Halo 5 was created with the goal of featuring a crisp, smooth 60 FPS setting for gamers. These 60 FPS make it nearly impossible to feature a split-screen mode. If you tried to add the addition into the game now, the confines of the game would buckle underneath itself.

343‘s Frank O’Connor had this to say:

“Realistically, for Halo 5, it’s not something we can just throw in a patch,”

“It’s just not feasible with the way the engine works…Splitscreen is fun for me too. It’s not something that I object to, and we would’ve loved to put it in. We’ll talk about it for the next game, and we’ll talk about it for the future.”

It is quite sad to see that the debates over FPS control in games has become this big of a factor. Ironically, in the hopes of finding a quality gap in graphics, fans lose out modes they all took for granted. One would assume, with the negative backlash, 343 would implement the mode into the inevitable Halo 6.

Were you guys disappointed by Halo 5′s lack of split-screen option? What did you guys think of the new installment to the series? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. I don’t care for Split-Screen. The Real Problem with Halo 5 is the story-line. Three years in game development and all we get is Cortana being evil, really?? Whatever happened to the “real” Forerunners for their return back to the Milky Way Galaxy?? What exactly is all this Reclamation about?? Whats going on with the Floods & the Precursors??? I would had rather seen this in Halo 5 than pathetic Cortana losing her mind. 343 get your shit together.

  2. Im a fan of both single player and online gameplay, but I’ve always enjoyed local split screen with friends and wish it could have continued with Halo 5. I hope there is a way for it to make a come back in the next Halo game without compromising rame rate.
