Batman: Return to Arkham has been delayed according to a post made in the Batman: Return to Arkham forum by WB employee Steve Grayson. The post stated that the decision to delay the release of the game on its July 26 release date was made to give Virtuos Games more time to “deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience.” The post also mentioned that there is no new release date set yet but they will announce it when the game is ready.
Batman: Return to Arkham is a collection of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City remastered for the PS4 and Xbox One
This delay could have been telegraphed due to the lack of promotion of the game following it’s announcement. When both Batman: Arkham VR and Batman: A Telltale Series were announced around the week of E3, Return to Arkham really took a backseat even though it was going to release before the other two titles.
Many fans of the series have stated how the trailer that was released showing off the graphics of the remastered games compared to the graphics of the original games, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, to were not all that impressive.
Their was also a rumor that the pre-order numbers for Return of Arkham were not what WB thought they were going to be and might have been disappointing. This could have been because of the lack pre-order bonuses or the fans not seeing a big enough improvement in the graphics to get them to pay for games that they most likely already own.
What could also affect the excitement for the collection is the lack of Batman: Arkham Origins. While this is considered the worse of the the Arkham games, it is no means a bad game but it wasn’t exactly what the fans were looking for at that time. But many fans were looking for the COMPLETE Arkham collection. So maybe this delay will allow Virtuos to remaster Arkham Origins as well to give fans more of a reason to purchase the collection once it is released.
