Vector, a multiplayer music game, has been announced for the PlayStation 4, having been announced at PlayStation Paris Games Week during Sony’s press conference. As the name suggests, Avicii Vector is being produced in collaboration with electronic dance musician Avicii. The musician also narrates the trailer that was released during PlayStation Paris Games Week, which you can see below.

Writing about the game on the PlayStation blog, Oskar Eklund described the game thusly:

Vector is a multiplayer music game, offering a seamless fusion between gameplay, graphics, and music. The idea is a responsive experience, where you and your friends’ performance not only affect the race and final rankings, but will also bring dynamic changes to the music and environment, which will make each race feel like your own little remixed version of that particular track.

Avicii is doing more than just lending his name and some music to Vector, however. At least, that’s according to Eklund and Sony, as Eklund’s blog post says:

Apart from creating exclusive remixes for the game, he’s been spending hours playtesting it, offering feedback, and contributing valuable ideas for multiplayer. It’s really important to him that we capture the feeling of having fun together with your friends — just like during his huge concerts.

Although the game is primarily multi-player, and that’s how the game has been focused, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t going to be any single player modes. As PlayStation has made clear, there “will be a bunch of songs and levels to play through and leaderboards to rule.” As to when the game might actually be released, a date has yet to be announced, although Sony are currently working on more ideas Vector:

Finally, we’re exploring ways to channel the EDM scene’s spirit of collaboration and remixing into the game — and turn it into cool features and game mechanics.
